No, no, no. Not the TV show. An episode of Twilight Zone that has the same name. They reused the flying saucer model from Forbidden Planet and at one point the main character of the story destroys it with a hatchet:
Here's the whole episode:

Three miniatures were used, of 22 inches, 44 inches, and 82 inches in diameter, and costing an estimated $20,000. The largest miniature, constructed of wood, steel, and fiberglass, which contained the internal motors for the ramps, central pedistal, and red neon engine light, weighed 300 pounds.
According to Wikipedia "MGM sold off the large miniature during the large MGM studio auction in 1970, but there was no record of who bought it. In 2008 a North Carolina man, who had bought the prop and stored it in his garage and hadn't realized its market value, finally put it up for auction. It was sold for $78,000" who knows what happened to the other two!
Hope this helps...

The TZ episode did NOT destroy the original model, I read an article where they described the pain staking detail they went thru to make a dup that could be destroyed! The original Jupiter 2 model from LIS is in the hands of model maker Greg Jein, along with the original launch tower. The full sized Jupiter 2 set was last seen at "Marineland" in southern California in the 70s, but hasn't been seen since. It was transported on a huge flatbed truck to the park, where it was on display for many months, and they had even built the upped deck, since visitors could actually climb up the stairs, visit the bridge, and walk out the side escape hatch/door. The UFO from the invaders model was bought by another movie collector named Bob Butts in San Diego, back in the 70s, but nobody knows where the full sized version from that show is, if it was destroyed or what. The 18 foot seaview model is owned by Bob Malone, another movie collector, and will possibly be with him until he dies, since he loves it so much! He also owns the Nautilus from the Disney movie, and several other movie models, and keeps them in prime condition, which I love!

There never actually was a full sized saucer from The Invaders; just the legs were constructed. The rest was put in optically for those shots where actors had to mill about the outside of the ship.

That is Agnes Moorhead... a superior actress of radio, film & TV who did that iconic episode without any dialogue.
The gang ramp of the ship from Forbidden Planet was used in many Twilight Zone eps- notably TO SERVE MAN.
Also, as far as Star Trek TOS is concerned, a great many of the actors, directors, etc. rolled into the series by way of THE OUTER LIMITS. The final, and greatly abysmal, episode from TOL featured a giant amoeba- later redressed for Star Trek as acid burrowing creature.

Elisha Cook Jr. was the name. But as far as I know, he never performed this song. His only credits as a singer were from the movie "Tin Pan Alley" (1940), where her performerd "You Say The Sweetest Things Baby" and "Good-Bye Broadway, Hello France". If you merge the two titles, you get "Sweet" and "Good", but you still miss the "Night" and the "Heart"! :)

Okay, well, I have two questions to post to the group, in the music genre:
1. Was there no original music for the 1st season episode of "Miri"? If not, what music was used?
2. We all know who sang the title song, but who did they use for some of the other female background singer in some of the episodes? (ie: Mudd's women)
I don't have an answer for either of these, that is why I'm asking! :)

Then Wikipedia is wrong ( The City on the Edge of Forever - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_City_on_the_Edge_of_Forever) ) Memory Alpha is wrong (The City on the Edge of Forever (episode) - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki (
http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/The_City_on_the_Edge_of_Forever_%28episode%29)), Fred Steiner (The Music of Star Trek, Fred Steiner) is wrong, and hundreds of other people that worked on the show....I think the problem is your remembering the 1980's VHS or Laserdisk version..."Due to copyright issues, the original Ray Noble recording of Goodnight, Sweetheart was replaced during the 1980s by another version for VHS and Laserdisc releases. However, Paramount's 1980 "Television Classics" home video release of this episode retains the original recording. Eventually this was corrected for the DVD release. New music was also composed for this episode, incorporating the song, but the composer of this music is not credited."
So as you can see Ray Noble 1931 recording is what was used in that episode, studio's can and have changed pitch, speed, even the key in which vocalist sings in, to suite what ever their needs are to finish a filmed project.

2: I know Alexander Courage composed the music for this episode's trailer, one of only two times music was written specifically for a preview. His sultry trombone music was so appropriate, it was used in the actual episode as the women stroll through the corridors, while the rest of the score was written by Fred Steiner. According to imdb.com, Elisha Cook Jr. had two uncredited "performances":
Soundtrack (2 titles)
1960 Peter Gunn (TV series)
– The Long, Long Ride (1960) (performer: "Shall We Gather At The River?" - uncredited)
1940 Tin Pan Alley (performer: "You Say The Sweetest Things Baby" 1940 - uncredited, "Good-Bye Broadway, Hello France" 1917 - uncredited)
In this context, what ecactly is the meaning of "performer", William? Was he dancing to the songs, pantomiming, or what? Just asking...

Your first question is easy to answer: There was no original music composed especially for this episode, it was tracked completely. However, there is one library cue composed by Mullendore, called "Romantic scene", which, I think, was used just once in the series (in "Miri"). Mullendore, in fact, composed several general cues for the library, without any special written scene or even episode in mind. They can be found on season 1 disc 5 (tracks 10-15). Following are some of them, including the respective episodes they were tracked in:
10. Impension* LM1 1:10 (used in "Shore Leave", in act 1, when Kirk and Sulu hear the gun shot and are running to find the source of the shot)
11. Lonely to Dramatic* LM3 1:27 (used in "Space Seed", when Khan is seducing Marla McGivers)
12. Romantic Scene* LM6 0:46 (used in "Miri" for one of the earlier Kirk-Miri scenes)
13. Pensive Mood* 13LM2 2:09 (used in "Space Seed" in the introduction scene for Marla McGivers, in her quarters, while she's painting)
I think, all these 4 cues were used just once in the whole series.
Your second question I can't answer right now. In what scene did you hear background singers in "Mudd's Women" or other episodes? I know that Nichelle Nichols was performing several times ("Charlie X", "The Conscience of the King" etc.), but what do you mean by "background singers"?

Yes, that trailer music is great, and very special and unusual, but perfectly used in that scene! And, there's another scene in trek this trailer music was used for: you can hear it in "A Piece of the Action", when Jojo Krako is using one of his "hookers" to "convince" Kirk to play along. This is one of the instances of using a track not composed for the season it was used in, which, according to union rules, was forbidden. They were supposed to re-record the music, but apparently, nobody was paying attention.

I am not remembering the VHS. That song wasn't even on the VHS version. When I discovered that I threw the tape in the garbage. Wikipedia says Goodnight Sweetheart was recorded in 1931 by the Ray Noble Orchestra (vocals by Al Bowly). I have it on CD. I just listened to it. Not only is the voice different, but the music, orchestration is also different. The info about Noble comes from the fact that he helped write the song. Al Bowly is not the voice on Star Trek. Please find it on the internet and listen to it for yourself. Please.

soundtrekker, where did you find that info?
Do you mean the library cues for "Miri" etc.? Well, partly by paying attention when watching the episodes and then remembering the various library cues (like "Romantic scene" in "Miri"), and partly by reading the comments on various discussion forums for the last two months (Filmscoremonthly, hometheatherforum, etc.).
The "missing episodes" are due to the fact that this set never was about to present the complete, definite "Star Trek episode score" collection, but rather a complete presentation of all the written and recorded music for Star Trek TOS as a whole. That way, they had
1. a certain number of "complete scores" for episodes, including music that wasn't even used for those particular episodes (e.g. "Catspaw")
2. a certain number of "partial scores" for episodes, which just needed some new music, but also used tracked music from earlier episodes (e.g. "Balance of Terror", "City on the Edge...")
3. and a few tracks for episodes who just needed some short additional material (e.g. "The Omega Glory") or some "source" music (e.g. "The Squire of Gothos") or songs ("The Way to Eden")
All that music could be allocated to the specific episodes it was meant for, and the episodes can be found in the track list accordingly.
The remaining cues on the set are outtakes, alternates, sound effects, re-recordings, unused materials etc, and, of course, the library cues, which were meant for general use, without certain episodes in mind. Some of the libary music was completely new (Mullendore, Season 1 Disc 5 and some cues by Courage, Season 2 Disc 5), others were re-recordings of earlier episode scores (e.g. re-recorded cues from Steiner's "Charlie X", Season 2, Disc 5). They were chosen and tracked into episodes by the music editor if needed. Since library music, per definition, isn't meant to be used for a specific episode in mind, there is no information in the liner notes in that regard. You may regret it, but that's the way the producers chose to approach this presentation of trek TOS music. If you think about it, it makes sense, though. A complete run-down of every cue tracked into all 79 episodes would be a colossal enterprise (pun intended), and the release of this set with all the comments, interviews and anecdotes at it is, was hard enough. Complete info on all tracked cues would have been nearly impossible to present on a 100 page booklet, and would have made the liner notes a little redundant and academic.
All in all, you can be absolutely sure that every note heard in all 79 episodes are on this set. If you don't find any specific episode title in the track list, you can be absolutely sure that this episode was tracked completely, using cues from earlier episodes (and possibly some music from the various "libraries"). The music for the "missing episodes" isn't missing - it's there, you just have to look for it! Have fun, TALLY-HO!!! :)

Yeah, they did a couple of episodes where they had the ship in the desert, but they never shot it where it looked like a fully built ship, like the full sized Jupiter 2 on Lost in Space (which was full of planks and stuff like you described). Granted, I wasn't there, but this is why the rest of us think the Invaders ship was an optical:
The spacecraft itself, which Quinn Martin had originally thought would only be seen in the pilot, is featured more prominently in “The Saucer” than in any other episode. “There were a lot of opticals to be done, and that was a large part of the budget,” said John Elizalde of the increased use of special effects. Only the pentagonal base of the spaceship, with its triangular legs, was a live prop; the saucer part of the vessel was matted in later under the supervision of visual effects man Darrell A. Anderson.

Exactly, William, you got it! :) That's why the La-La-Land guys added those alternate, re-orchestrated, re-recorded (you name it) cues to the set! If you hear some rehashed cues from earlier episodes that sound different somehow, you most probably will find them somewhere on the "library discs" (the S1D5, S2D3, S2D5, S3D2, and S3D5). That, as I pointed out already, was the goal of this set in the first place: to present ALL the music heard ANYWHERE in the whole series! (plus music NEVER HEARD before, of course!). Speaking of cues, here's a suggestion:
1. Extract all the audio from the CDs
2. Renumber the tracks in a sensible manner and put them into a single folder
3. create a fake CD (ISO image) from the content of that folder
4. Watch every single episode and find the appropiate music in the folder/on the fake CD
5. Create a *.CUE-File for every single episode - each cue file drawing/playing the apropiate music from the
fake CD.
6. Voila you got your "CD"s of complete music for each and every single episode :D but taking up the space
of only the tracks (because each track still is just needed to be there once).
Problems:
1. Episodes that don't repeat a track fully will still play the whole track
2. Finding someone crazy enough to put that load of work unto his/her shoulders :P

Actually, we did that back in the 70's when ST was on channel 5 here in LA. My friend had recorded the audio from every episode, HIGHLY EDITED I might add, and just edited out the music tracks that didn't have vocals or sound effects, and created a 90 minute mono cassette of the music. By using a two track reel to reel, he could fade out the music on the left track and fade in the right track, which would sound like a continueous piece of music, when it was re-recorded into one mono track, it was great! By using similar pieces of music that was rehashed into other episodes, he could get one continueous piece of music from 2 or 3 different episodes.

William
Yes, that's EXACTLY how it was done here in Germany, there was at least one trek fan in my country (possibly several) who created those edited soundtracks from the German dubbed-broadcast, thus creating something what could be called a soundtrack! He then offered it on audio cassettes for a few bucks. But it wasn't done in that manner that you described (two tracks, fading out and in etc.), but just hard, clean cuts, if I remember correctly! But it was fun, nevertheless...

Aaaaaaah, childhood :) I grew up in the 70s and it was a marvelous time for watching movies and tv. And so many soundtracks from that era are just stuck in my head. I have my own internet connection only for four years now, you can imagine which goodies your are missing out on, because you don't even go looking for them. So to a degree the internet and to even a much much much bigger degree ffshrine (YEAH!) unstuck the music in my head and brought it back into real life and gave me parts of my childhood back :) And even if a soundtrack hasn't been published it is most likely one can acess other stuff from the same composer and delve into the same kinda style and world this way.
Long live the internet. Long live ffshrine!
PS.: I AM STILL LOOKING FOR THE maintheme AND end titles music from John Addisons "The French Atlantic Affair", don't let me die without it folks! :D

Yes, my friend had belonged to one of those "star trek" clubs when he was in high school, and they continued afterwards, and became a really big group, getting together every saturday to talk about TREK! He made copies of the cassette for all the "official" club members, and I had even come up with full color cassette labels for the tapes themselves. Since we didn't have FULL color xerox machines at that time, I printed up a sample blank cassette label, on a sheet of 8.5 X 11 paper, and then put the official Star Trek logo on the top, and then "Original Television Soundtrack" down below. They were white letters on a black background, which allowed me to use felt tip pens to color them, cut them out and use spray glue to stick them onto the cassette. VERY professional looking for the year, if I do say so myself, hehehehe

Well I was all excited yesterday, my set was delivered yesterday to my front door. I got home from work last night nothing there.
contacted the carrier they claim it was delivered as well. Sent a email to LaLa Land but being the weekend I probably wont here back till Monday at the earliest.
this really sucks. fingers crossed this will be resolved soon. but dang it. And I know my neighbors in my building are not the type to take packages that are not theirs
Why is it so hard for carriers to deliver correctly to the address listed.
---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:58 PM ----------
Has anyone had this happen before that can give me an idea on what to expect from La La Land?
Are they good about replacing lost or misdeliverd packages(especially one like this) and if so do they expedite getting the replacement to you or am I going to have to wait it out all over again. sucks was really hoping to listen to it this weekend.

Because viruses no matter the carrier are totally random at who their next target is. No wait. That was that Outbreak movie with Dustin Hoffman, you were talking parcels ... ugh
Hang in there! I ordered something from amazon and our postal service DHL has it since Friday Night 4 o'clock and those assholes didn't deliver on saturday, DHL storage is just 45 minutes away from my place and it's not really remote. Some viruses should do some targeting if you ask me!

Plus, you have to think about, it may not have been your neighbors, but someone else in your building, or on your street! I had an idiot UPS driver leave a package that had an ORIGINAL screen used movie prop that was supposed to be a "signature only" package, and he just left it on the doorstep of my house, in plain view of the street! Since I didn't sign for it, the prophouse in London couldn't prove that it was delivered, or signed for, and since it was gone when I arrived home, there was nothing to do. The prophouse had to refund my creditcard payment, and I felt bad for them. I'm sure that they got paid from UPS, but that takes months to do!
But that could have been taken by anyone.
And, by the way, you cannot really blame Troi for that crash, she missed the COW!!! Hehehehehehe :)

And I would say Yeah If I lived in a bigger building I would say yeah it could be another person in the building, but there are only 10 people in my complex and its gated with a code,
It is entirely possible like you suggested that the moron carrier left it infront of the building on the steps infront of the door, and some one in another building or homeless person or a one of the tourists on the blvd just saw it and walked up and took it.
I have had issues with them delivering to the wrong street and building before with stuff that I get from Intrada, or Twilight Time and Amazon as well.
Twilight Time was awesome about it, know questions asked just went ahead and sent me out another copy of the Night of the living dead bluray even though it was almost totally sold out. Intrada took a bit to get a replacement copy of Black Stallion sent out, and Amazon is great as well.

Amazon is great! I've never had a problem with them! the others are iffy! and take forever for fix a bad delivery, but I have always used a relative for a delivery address (someone you know is going to be home all day) for anything over $100.00 or if it has great sentimental value! UPS just does not care, all they want is to drop off the package and on to the next delivery. UPS used to have an option you could tell them not to deliver any package until they have a signature from the person that ordered it...not any more! which sucks. Sorry to hear your package went south on you, hopefully it will get straighten out.

As for in good condition, I usually trust UPS, but you are right about dumping the package, and leaving. USPS, my big problem is the condition of the packages and contents. I ordered a catalog from Tennessee and shipped to me in Alabama, and it came in with very little of the outer packaging left, short trip, really abused. And the wild one, was a stamp poster from the USPS, it came in looking like they were trying to open a can of Pillsbury biscuits. I had the Postmaster send it back to replace it, and I swear they sent the same one back to me.

Yes, there are complete track lists ("cue sheets") of all episodes, but they are owned by CBS for internal use only and are not for public display (with the exception of three samples, which were published by Jeff Bond in his book "The Music of Star Trek": "The Alternative Factor", "Journey to Babel", and "All Our Yesterdays"). But even if the cue sheets would be published, or if someone would reconstruct them somehow from scratch (which very well may be the case in the near future), you still would have to do much editing work, because, in many instances, only parts of cues from earlier episodes were used for tracked episodes, or there would be new combinations of older cues who would be edited together from several separate original cues or parts of them, in any possible combinations. You would have to compare the cues from the tracked episodes with the material on the set, to find exactly the right track, and to determine if the track was used as a whole, or just part of it, or which version of any given track was used (the original one or a library track, which was re-recorded at a later season). All in all, this would be an extremely arduous and time-consuming task... but feel free to start it. Have fun, and let us know what you accomplished! ;)

You are totally welcome, and I hope you get your package replaced by LALALAND really quick. I'm sure they are good guys, and will do the right thing! But HEY! Don't blame the homeless for that, they only steal stuff from INSIDE your house, Hehehehehehehe :)
As for the cue sheets, I will have to go over to ASCAP and check to see, as I think that all the cue sheets are over there, for public viewing. You're not supposed to copy any of them, but I know many composers and arrangers who have a TON of sheet music and stuff that they got from there, why not the TOS Trek stuff?
We will see.

For grins, I put together The Corbomite Maneuver with all the other edited cues, as close to the episode as possible. It was a hell of a job and it took days. They reused the same cues repeatedly, some without any editing, others completely chopped up. In the end, it's cool to have what amounts to a "music only" track, but it's not the best listening experience. A lot of jarring edits were covered in the episode sound mix by sound effects and dialog, but on their own, the cuts are pretty obvious. I had to fudge a bit to get them to sound better, but that took away from the authenticity.
I doubt I'll do much more, maybe just fill in some of the partial scores like Mirror Mirror and By Any other Name with the proper library cues. But going through each episode to make up heavily edited, overly choppy, and very repetitive suites? That's for a fan made of sterner stuff.

Yeah, I guess I didn't necessarily mean editing it to exactly match the screen, but more of what ssos was describing. It was just getting tedious listening to the same 5 cues (albeit slightly different) in a row on the "library music" sections, but I didn't want to just skip huge swathes of the set.

Have you all seen what Amazon.com wants for these 15 CDs? $600.00!!! How many do you think they'll sell at that price? Me think none, Kemo Sabe. (I've been watching the Lone Ranger). Amazon reminds me of the oil company execs that decided to take advantage of the high price of oil and get rich them selves. I'm guessing Amazon thinks the price is already high and they can make it even higher and Trekkies, Trekkers will pay it anyway. Maybe I'm wrong, but right or wrong, they ain't getting it from me. Yes, if you could even reassemble or magically hear the music-only parts of an episode, you would hear recognizable bits interspersed with sections only a few seconds long, horribly lopped off at the beginning or end. It would be more likely to RUIN your memories than enhance them.
Kind of, if you could go back in time invisibly and meet your first "lost love" you might realize she has terrible breath, or snorted a lot, or something else that teenage lust or youth's cluelessness forgot about. Enjoy the music we have--relish the memories we have--and be grateful we can go on living to make NEW memories.
I love that I grew up in the golden days of STAR TREK and Man from U.N.C.L.E. I love being able to have the original soundtracks released, stirring up great memories. But I don't "wish I could do it again." I always laugh at that country song "I Should Have Been a Cowboy." Yeah, right! Your teeth rotted out of your head; a splinter could get infected and kill you; you could easily be poisoned by the drinking water or tainted food; and so on.
Be thankful for the past, sure, but trying to rebuild a music-only track second-by-second kind of strays into Norma Desmond territory! And I'm not ready for my close-up just yet ...

Well, that's you and that's fine, but some of us just edit music as a hobby, not to indulge in some "my life sucks" fantasy. My life is just fine, thanks (actually I have more fun at 45 than I did at 17). I put together an episode's score and, yeah, it was a pain, and yeah, it wound up pretty repetitive, but it ruined nothing. What's to ruin? I have the episodes on video. It was a fun project and I'm happy with the result. And, by the way, Norma Desmond wanted to go back to a period where she was great. I just wanted to make a partial score into a complete one. It had nothing to do with recapturing the past.
Oh and my first love? We're still friends and she's just as sweet and beautiful as she was when were were teens. She just has lousy taste in guys. :)

DUDE!!! You need to get ON THAT!!! Trust me, you don't want to wait until you're an old man like me! I went thru 6 women (psychos all) until I found the right one, and she was right in front of me the whole time! Just bad timing I guess you could say. But if you have a girl that is as sweet and lovely as you say, TELL HER how you feel and change her taste in guys! I don't know why all the sweet and cute girls like to go after trollish looking "bad boys". My wife was bounced from one creep to another, and I had to step in on the last one, and let him know which way the wind was blowing. He made some grumblings but finally moved on, and I grabbed her and held on for dear life, not letting her go, and I drug HER down to the church! Her mom and dad were so delighted to see it happen, they were constantly worried about the men that she was dating.
So, you see, you may not only be doing the girl a great dis-service by not being in her life, you may save her family from some unknown horror in their lives as well! You can never tell! :)
Good luck, and God's speed!

Here is part of Amandas post, i copied it because i find here revised play list rather helpful. See Amanda, i wasn't just trying to make comfortable, hugs! :)
You want this removed, please say so!
---------------------------------------------
Amandas revised playlist:
So, a music question. The promo for Regeneration is SO out of order, and very incomplete. I watched it and listened scene by scene. Everything from the first Enterprise scene back is totally missing, and many of the cues that are there don't seem to match well. There are two or three that don't seem to be used at all. Confusing things further, most cues seem merged into longer tracks. There are no gaps, they flow into each other, with most of the commercial break stings missing.
Here is how I arranged my set, I added main and end titles. I appreciate any help or input.
1 Main Title (TV Edit)
2 New Mission (Starts when we first see Enterprise, and seems to last through the tactical briefing, though it does not seem to match completely)
3 Distress Call (Starts in the tactical room when Hoshi picks up the distress call, and follows into the Borgized transport attacking the other ship. Seems short)
4 Captain Archer's Plan (Archer planning the next assault on the transport, the Borg attacking Phlox, and coming back from commercial with Borg in the Jefferies tubes)
5 Ship On The Horizon (Does not match anything I could hear, so placing it here was a guess).
6 The Investigation (Again, does not seem to fit in).
7 Borg Hunt (Hunting down and fighting the Borg in the ship, through ejecting them out of the airlock)
8 Destable (The Borg activating the components left on Enterprise causing it to drop out of warp)
9 Dead In The Water (Enterprise helpless, with Borg transport moving in to attack, leads into commercial break)
10 Borg Attack (Back from break, Borg start attacking the ship, and boarding. Lasts through Archer and Malcolme getting into the transporter)
11 The Hive Mind (The away team beams into Borg ship)
12 Regenerations (Borg ship disabled but starting to regenerate. Destroyed by archer)
13 Postponed (T'Pol and Archer discussing the transmission to the Delta Quadrant, and possibly only postponing the inevitable)
End Credits (v1)
Many of the track names seem inappropriate, and I may think about renaming some.

Well, to me, "Trek" is TREK! I started this thread to talk about the LALALAND 15 disc box set, but now that it is ALL OVER the internet, free to download and stuff, there is little reason to restrict the subject matter here to that topic any longer. I suggest that we all take a chill pill and sit back and enjoy whatever TREK topic that comes up! :)
And, I still believe that any link, be it audio or video (Like Youtube vids) should be allowed here, no matter what. They don't pollute the subject matter, and a good TREK youtube vid is always welcome!

Well, well, well! That is very interesting indeed. I would have thought that they would have the complete track listings of ALL discs available somewhere!
That being said, I also have a surprise. As some of you know, I've been looking all over for a copy of the book "The music of Star Trek" by Jeff Bond. Soundtrekker had offered to scan it for me, by hand (YIKES) one page at a time, but fortunately, a contact on another forum, an EBOOK forum, came through this morning with a PDF copy of the book, so I decided that it would be great to share it here! I mean, why not, this is a TOS thread, right?
Here is the link:

Okay, here it is! Contained in this upload are:
1. "The Music of Star Trek" written and compiled by Jeff Bond (1999) [1 pdf] - as uploaded previously by the great William Taylor here on this thread! :)
2. “Music for Star Trek: Scoring a Television Show in the Sixties,” by Fred Steiner - in Iris B. Newsom, ed., Wonderful Inventions:
Motion Pictures, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound at the Library of Congress. Washington: Library of Congress, 1985.(p. 286-309)
[jpg format]
(This article was one of the sources used by Jeff Bond for his book)
and as a BONUS (never before uploaded here, or elsewhere, I think!):
3. "The Music of Classic Star Trek" by Jeff Bond. In: Star Trek Communicator # (?) p. 33-35, 37-38 [jpg format]
The Bond article from the "Communicator" magazine was clearly released before his book, so it must have been published in the late 90ies, probably between 1996 and 1998. It contains basically most of what appeared in his book, but there are some remarks and interview snippets which didn't appear in his book, I think, so for completists, it may very well be interesting to read it!

Question:
I recently got the GNP Crescendo (ZYX in Europe) 3 CD TOS box set from a dealer in Germany. It only cost $12 "New" on Amazon, I thought it was a "steal" - it kinda is. It was sealed but looks "suspect", as the vol numbers on the artwork are reversed (CD 2 is listed as CD 3, visa-versa). There were no booklets in any of the CD's, just front and back cards (hence, no doubt, the cheap price). They do appear to be legit (at least imho), just repackaged for a discount price, all have the ZYX logo on the CD's.
I have dl'ed scanned booklets off the interwebs for vol's 2 & 3, but the scans for vol 1 (The Cage & Where No Man ...) contained just the front & back & CD, no booklet.
Is there actually a booklet for vol 1 & can anybody share it? Many Thanks.

Hi smartin00,
the 3 CD TOS-Box was first published by ZYX Music Germany in the mid Ninties. Originally the Box contains the three Original Releases published by GNP. In the Original ZYX Release there was only the Front Pic of the album without a booklet.
In the Ninties TOS and the Soundtracks of the TV-Show where not a big thing in Germany or Europe. It was only published because of the success of STAR TREK TNG. ZYX has re released the TOS 3 CD Box in 2007.
I dont know, if there was a complete booklet in it.
I personally havent the booklet, but maybe its possible to get it from ZYX directly. The company still sell the CD Box.

I'll guess have to find a US set (and pay a pretty penny for it) to get all 3 of the booklets (so that I can hold them in my hot little hands) or else find a download that someone created for just vol 1 (if it even exists).

Never had to register for ZippyShare and since i am using ad blocker with chrome, i can't say anything about pop-ups or ads or the like. WITH ad blocker it's pretty smooth, the only "drawback" is captcha but that is a minor... oh, and another drawback is the max file size of 200 MBs, but it's no problem splitting files in winrar and then do a multiple file upload.

khitomer - Can you currently download anything else? If not then ...
Several years ago, I was attacked by a virus that would not allow me to download any files in IE. I eventually found a check-box in the IE advanced properties (IIRC) that the virus had "un-checked" that would allow downloads and I had to re-check it. I don't see that box now in my current IE (I may have had an older version of IE back then, this was a few short years back and I've slept since then) but if you do see any type of indicator in your browser (whatever kind you have) check to see if it will allow downloads.

Yes, I agree! Diane Lane is "Captain Janeway" reloaded! :) They should consider her for "Star Trek: Voyager - the Next Gerneration", with her as Janeway's daughter, commandeering the refitted Voyager, ready for launch into the - gasp - Delta Quadrant, to boldly go... well, you get the picture! :)

I really didn't like "Untraceable" that much. As a professional, she was always playing the creep's games, kept falling into his traps, and I thought that made her look sort of foolish, which is what the perp wanted all the way through the movie! I know, she finally got him in the end, but it was SO anti-climatic by that time, I was sitting there saying "Oh, come ON!!" I really LOVE Diane Lane, especially in 'Must love dogs", she's really great, but I felt she should have used a little influance over the writers of "Untraceable" to make her look alot smarter. Just saying......

The most over-busy director of all time JIM "no good" WINORSKI :D
Director (91 titles)

Well, judging from the movie titles, most of it worthy of an Oscar, I presume! (Or was it the rasperry??? I always seem to confuse them somehow...)

I have no clue, lol. All i know is that i checked imdb.com for "Crashlanding" because of Neil Acrees rather cool soundtrack and the next thing i clicked on the director and hell, there i was.
Jim Wynorski - IMDb (
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0691061/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1)
Seams to me he is doing scifi-channel like horror and action movies and porn at the same time. Judging from both, i'd say he doesn't have his priorities straight. Judging from the latter, his actors he has :D
I find it fascinating though. Most of the tv stuff seems to be crap. How does one make a carrier out of that? And now you could give me a short cynical answer, i know, but that wouldn't cut it really, would it?

I figured as much!! sorry to hear of your aggravation...so much for the good neighbor policy, I had hoped that the person that got your package would be honest enough to take it to you...sad times we live in. I had ordered new parts for a new computer (which I'm using now) from Amazon, with a total of around $600.00 dollars, UPS knocked once and left the box on the front porch and drove off! not even a thank you or without so much as a by your leave!! I have one good neighbor around me, the rest I trust as far as I can throw this building. Good luck on getting your money back! I hope something good comes from this.

If you paid with a credit card, you can reverse the payment by contacting them. Since nobody signed for the package, they have no proof that it was even mailed! If they did get a tracking number, it still doesn't prove that you actually got it, right? If you paid thru Paypal, you can contact them, and get a refund also. You should be safe.

Did they require a signature? If La La Land did not on this high costing purchase, then it is their failure. The last UPS package that was delivered, was for my Brother, who lives next door. The driver asked if I was he, and I said yes. Mainly because he wants me to get it, since he was not home. The address was different, and either the driver didn't care or was just wanting to get it out of his truck.

ANY filehoster can play with your archives, especially if a complaint is received. They don't seem to take any chances or investigate. If they get any complaint, they take down the links, even for paying customers. You can contest it, but I dunno if that does any good. If these are original compositions of yoursm contesting may work. But if they are compositions of other works, no matter how old they may bem they are copyright violations, thus illegal, thus the takedown would stand.
Sorry about my above post, wrong thread somehow. I was upset, 'tis being edited now.

On this site, the only way a thread can really "Die" is if a bunch of trolls all got together and started blasting people on a specific thread. Then Jessie or Sarah would close the thread and not allow a similar thread to be opened for three or more months. That happened several years ago with the request thread, which I peruse daily, and I was heartbroken, because I had just found this site a month before that, and the request thread was the only way, at that time, to find new posts and links. Then Sarah decided that each link should have it's own thread, and the rest is history....

Well, let me add something positive about the set.
It's now been a few months since I got it (the day it came out - paid for it) and I still enjoy listening to it. All of it. I frequently start a playlist of each disc (EAC'ed them all to my PC) and I listen to a whole disc-at-a-time while I'm doing whatever it is I'm doing on the PC. Some scores that I was not particularly interested in early on - have now begun to interest me and I'm liking this set more and more each time I listen to it. I've gone thru the whole set 4 or 5 times, now. Start to finish, disc 1 to disc 15 - I even listen to the library stuff.
I have tried to contribute to a thread over on the Steve Hoffman forums that never seemed to generate any interest over there. At least, here, I can say that I like it and know that others do, too.

Like you, the more I listen, the more I like what I was not particularly interested in early on. Some are better in the episode, than alone, and some are awesome both ways. I plan to rearrange the tracks on CDs in the order as in the episode, such as the teaser first, THEN the main theme, and Desilu theme after end theme. It feels and sounds better that way.

Here are two different versions of the TOS theme in a more symphonic arrangement. The first link was taken from The Star Trek Album and was conducted by Mike Townend with the Royal Philharmonic orchestra. And the next link is from a version conducted by the late Erich Kunzel for the album Symphonic Star Trek.

Thank You. I also learned that there was a version that was cut from Star Trek 4 that's on the 2 disk rerelease of the soundtrack & a version from the ending in the 09 remake.
There is also this take which also includes the Motion Picture Main theme. It's very beautiful & very cool. :)

I just want to say thanks for this. I love reading about scores and how they came about - and I love many of the Star Trek scores from TOS to today. I didn't even know any of these existed! Going to read them later - made my day. Big thanks, Soundtrekker!

Specific nitpicky question re: TOS. There's a brass-based stinger used in All Our Yesterdays for the the moment at the end of the episode when Sarpeidon's star goes nova. Where does that stinger appear in the TOS box set? I thought perhaps it was from Who Mourns for Adonais? but nothing there sounds quite right to me.

No, you're right, it is in that episode. The last second of "Apollo's Power / Kirk's Theme / Apollo's Temple"

Thanks--it's been plaguing me, for completely irrational reasons. I think hearing it in the context of the original cue was throwing me. As soon as I listened to only that last second or two in isolation, there it was.

No problem. One of the first things I did was identify some of the edited stingers and cues that stuck with me. Glad to help.

Use the blue button "Create Download Link" not the green button "Download".
Type in the response and "Submit Query".
Click the checkbox just below the "Download Now" button (with supertiny print that says "Download with SendMyWay download manager and get premium speeds") to remove the check for using their download manager. De-Click this FIRST!
Click "Download Now" button just above it.
