It was requested of me recently. It's another edit I thought I'd released before but I can't find that I have so here it is.

As with all my edits, it's an extensive study of the entire score combining Album, Sessions, and Blu-Ray rips. It includes the source music and pretty much any extra you'd want.

This is pretty much my favourite John William's score ever. It's experimental, it's vivid, it's aggressive, it's tender, it's melodic but lacks any themes, it's atonal and tonal, it's...everything.

The OP never claimed it to be lossless. He might just have posted it in FLAC to keep whatever quality there was

You are somewhat correct. I actually had forgotten myself. But as stated in the original post, it's from all sources. If it's from the album, then it's 'lossless' from the album rip, if it's from the Blu-Ray then it's 'lossless' from the blu ray rip, technically.

The hard part are that the sessions themselves have never leaked in anything but mp3 and so, anything that contains sessions rip is, as you said, lossy. But I released it in flac to preserve the varying levels of quality as one track might contain a bit from all three if needed.

How was it ripped from the bluray?
What software was used?

GoodMusician
11-26-2015, 05:29 PM
It's not a hard process with iMac's but i'll look for a walkthrough to better aide you

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
11-26-2015, 06:02 PM
I already know the process on Windows.

I ask because so many software read just the DTS core audio, which is lossy.

I asked specifically what software you used.

AFIK, there is no software developed for MAC users that is bit-accurate.
You can use the *latest* FFMPEG builds that use LibDcaDec to decode DTS formats (except for DTS-express), but that's about it.
Anything ancient from 2011 will not be bit-accurate.

True, it can't be a hard process, but it can most often be an overlooked process.

That's why I asked.

GoodMusician
11-26-2015, 06:39 PM
Right... Alright...

So your point is to a) point out you know your shit and b) to point out that my edit is not bit-accurate. Well, yes, I'm glad you do know your stuff and no, I suppose my set isn't.

I remember a time when ripping from DVD's to listen to rear channels and hear echoey remnants of music from the rear 5.1 mixes was something people shared, or hissy bootlegs--sometimes with too much hiss reductions--were the best 'bootlegs' you could buy and you were lucky if the bootleg wasn't improperly transferred at the wrong speed.

So, again, if you're asking me if my edit is bit-accurate, I don't recall which stream I ripped from. Plus, the tracks that utilize rip are few and far between and contain sfx... so bit accuracy is a bit... over-zealous.

But if you'd like, I could simply take this down... I don't have to share anything.

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
11-26-2015, 07:36 PM
Hmmm.

I can rip a remux I have of the bluray and send that to you.
I can convert it to FLAC. Using the lossless DTS stream.

Your attitude is the general attitude I see.
Nothing surprising there.

It's completely natural to feel apprehensive.

I can provide you with bit-accurate bluray rip using eac3to.
As much as possible with what it can provide.

When it comes to the bluray, there is only one stream.
Any others would be likely the commentary, or other.

But the software is what I'm questioning.

And willing to provide something accurate for editing.
Do you want it?

---------- Post added at 10:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 AM ----------

Actually, forget it.
I don't care about you.

You deliberately evade simple questions such as what *YOU* did.
You would rather show me shit that doesn't pertain to you.
That's your choice. YOU decided to behave like that instantly.

You do realize there are a number of us here that know a lot about bluray ripping.
I only asked but you insisted on being a dick.

I'm happy if you don't share any more.
Just let me know so I know to close your threads.

It's completely normal and standard to me.

I actually work very hard for every set I personally make. I don't reup other peoples stuff, i don't sell it, I dont' ask for anything.

I appreciate someone who can understand the finer points of things, but when you post in a thread...and your main purpose is only to show off (which show boating is fine and all but...) to tear it down and claim I "don't care" the reality is YOU'RE doing that, and YOU'RE doing that for show.

I've done nothing but call you out on it which makes you uncomfortable which is fine. I just am gonna call a spade a spade. i'm not being evasive either: I made this set at least a year ago. I've made many since then. So to have to recall back each and every step I did from then is a bit difficult at the moment, on a holiday, when I'm with family, when frankly the only cues that even use film rip are:

Disc 1:
track 3 (first 3 seconds)
track 4 (the female choir 'woops' overlayed)
track 8 (I THINK I used some in here to augment the RS)
track 10 (the unreleased film ending with rain sfx)
track 14 (which is...sfx)
track 27 (the highly sfx ridden 20 second entrance insert)

Disc 2
track 9 for a minor horn part which is looped and slowed in the film

SO as you can see, it would only improve seconds, most of which is SFX ridden and I've attempted to remove most sfx while not causing too much distortion in the process, or is a layer in something else... so no, I personally do not feel that great amount of bit data will do much to improve this situation.

And in the end, I posted my edit... I posted what I made and what I worked hard to make and what I feel, in good conscience, I did a very good job on. As far as if I used the completely lossless audio stream, no I didn't fucking break into WB, steal the session tapes and make the set. But did I use what was available, like always. Did I make the best damned set you can find out there: Fuck yes i did lol...

As far as the ability to rip, bit for bit, every ioata of data on the blu ray... that's great! Maybe for another set... so lets make a thread about how to do that.

But in this case, I see no point. It does nothing to increase value. Especially since the predominance of what's available is mid-grade mp3's...

Part of the issue any set has is source material. Look at Return of the Jedi Special Edition. Poor Mike Matessio had to work from not just sub par copies of the original masters but masters from several sessions including one in a completely different studio! And when you produce the set, part of the issue is to try and make the various sources match. If you work from too pristine a master and then put isolated music track on there, you have a disparity which is why many include such tracks as extras.

So no, I'm not brushing you off because I don't care, I'm physically telling you that any added quality you think will be brought to the set is negligible in the large scheme of things, especially once connected to everything else.

EDIT:

I checked to see when I exported the final flac files of the set

I wasn't trying to show boat.

All I wanted to know is what you did.
But when you go off like "I could simply take this down", shows me you're quick to insult and just an immature child so I really don't care anymore what you did.

It has nothing to do with trying to be a show off.

I just wanted to know what you did and all you did was evade it and hand me some sloppy google result option.
I could easily google myself.

The fact you kept it all in FLAC shows you know about quality degredation and other things for editing.

But I can see it's just a different avenue for you.

We already have plenty of threads for ripping bluray audio for editing.

That property window proves nothing to me.

I can see you're just on your own level.

So I'll just leave at that.

Thanks a lot for this. Didn't know the sessions ever surfaced, didn't know the slates were available either.

It looks like Disc 1 is the score as heard in the film (though not sure about actual film mixes) and disc 2 is all the alternates and whatnot. Is this correct?
