Okay, first off, this is something that I almost never do, but I decided to upload a couple of homemade "edited" tracks from the new Star Trek III expanded soundtrack. Let me explain...
I have not yet had the chance to order the new Star Trek III soundtrack from FSM (it's on the list behind about 5 others), and thus I have not yet seen the liner notes. I'm sure they pretty much describe most of this in detail, so I apologize in advance. I absolutely love the new score release, but a couple of things were nagging at me.
First, I noticed one small cue was missing. It's the music that starts when Kirk vows to Sarek that he'll rescue Spock, and ends with David and Saavik beaming down to Genesis. After listening to the cues, (and once again, I apologize if this has already been explained in the liner notes) I figured out that that cue is actually pieced together from little bits of a couple of other cues (namely "Spock Endures Pon Farr" and "The Klingon's Plan"). So, the first cue that I put together is the film-version edit for "Kirk's Vow/Beaming Down To Genesis" (that's the title I came up with, feel free to come up with whatever you like).
The second thing I noticed was regarding the cue "Stealing the Enterprise" - I absolutely love that this track is the proper film version - ALMOST. The one part that really bugged me was that they kept in the short little part that appears at 2:55 (basically right between the moment that Kirk & Co. beam away to the Enterprise and the moment when the Enterprise bridge lights up). Once again, I'm sure this was probably explained in detail in the liner notes, but I have no clue what this was supposed to accompany. So, the second track is the true "film-version" cue of "Stealing the Enterprise". I also extended the very last note of the cue (where the Excelsior breaks down in space) to match the longer length of the note in the film. (Sorry if I seem obsessive, but I kind of am when it comes to film scores. Go figure) :)
As for quality, I used the FLAC versions of the cues to do the editing, then saved both cues as both WAV and 320 mp3 files. And in case anyone is wondering, both cues are completely FREE OF SFX AND DIALOGUE.
One last thing - I kind of hesitated before sharing this. The reason being, I did this little project as a hobby, and thus I'm not a professional editor. My point being, I normally don't share this kind of stuff that I do on my own computer, so if you like the cues, great, enjoy! If not, I apologize and let's just call it a day. :)
Enjoy!
