I listened to the final battle theme and...

... actually, this is a little less than stellar.

Okay, you probably already know all that but well, here goes...

1-if the game got a sound test... USE IT! Will save you much hassle.

2-If the game keep the music playing when the game is paused, then definitely rip it when the game is paused.

3-If all else fails, try to edit the sounds as much as possible and when playing the game in order to rip the music, play in a way to add the least amount of sounds possible to it.

You have definitely not did any of the above or if you dd, your rip was a little less than successful. Not only is the final battle's intro cut but you have obviously not edited many if any sounds out AND did not play to minimize the amount of sounds added in (I mean, one can clearly hear you doing (and missing) spin attacks and collecting coins!).

I do not know if this is true for all of the ripped soundtrack but if that rip is representative of your soundtrack's quality... then I'd rather wait until it is fixed/another one is attempted.

Sorry. Still, thanks for the effort.

Thanks for the effort.
I'll still DL this one to see what tracks it has that my others don't to tide me over until the Official OST.

I find it amusing that somebody still mentioned pausing it and recording it that way. Regardless of having playing the game or not, I knew you couldn't do it just because how many times people said you couldn't. So it still amuses me that people mention it.

Oh and how do I wish there had been a sound test. Seems like no games do that anymore (Thank god Mother 3 did.)

Honestly I'm not complaining. I think that if somebody's gonna whine about the rip not being good enough they should shut up and learn how to do it themselves. So all of you who contributed to this rip, I hearteningly thank you for your efforts!

binichico
01-02-2008, 03:33 AM
Yeah, I would hope that the CD rip will be in an high-rate MP3 format as well as a lossless format.
Lossless is great and all, but for the file size, I'd just prefer a 320kbps mp3 encoding, or even 192.

i think we're all gettin a little picky with the one guy i've noticed offering a clean rip of the entire soundtrack. let's consider ourselves extremely lucky if we just get the lossless rip Peppydude offered! then everyone can convert to whatever they want, or start asking for other formats once more than one person has it.

PS: sorry if that came off as me preaching from a high horse, it wasn't meant to! just trying to show a little respect is all, heh.

and thanks muchly for what you've done thus far

That is fair; after all, this is a huge amount of effort to go through just for one soundtrack. However, the bandwidth needed to download a lossless 2 CD file is considerable. It would take hours on a 56kb connection, and after the conversion is complete, then all that would be time wasted - more so, if the download is interrupted and canceled.

Thus, practically Peppydude should post both a lossless file and a space-conservative mp3 file. That way, we all save the man-hours necessary to download the lossless where not everybody may want to.

Don't get me wrong, it's great that Peppydude is going to post a lossless version. It's just that some people just want a slice of bread instead of the whole loaf.

StarMan_DeeLux

Wow. My one comment really snowballed :0

I agree it's kind of him to share it in the first place, I just prefer 320kbps .mp3 over FLAC because it's too much trouble to convert, my mp3 player doesn't like it, and it's pointless to use all that extra space when I'm listening to all this on $14 speakers anyways.

Thanks Peppy!

StarMan_DeeLux
01-02-2008, 05:33 PM
Oh also, thanks for the rip of the Rolling Theme! It's fantastic! I like that it has both versions in it.

Yeah maybe the Bowser's theme is less than stellar but like he said in an earlier post, it'll most likely be on the OST anyways so this is good for now. I mean, it's more than we had before.

Thanks again!

So, the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack will be uploaded, or will it be the Game Rip Sound Collection? It will be in lossless, right? Either way, thank you so much. I do hope it is in lossless though.

The extraction that Mogman posted is decently done, but the quality is poor. 128kbs is not something I personally like to deal with, although I appreciate that there are some poor souls who suffer dial-up even in these enlightened times. @.@

Anyway, if the actual soundtrack gets posted, deal GOD let it be lossless, even if it means splitting it into various .rars. Lossless mp3 would be absolutely ideal.

MP3 is not a lossless format, no matter what settings you use when encoding.

I'm aware of that, I was just using it as shorthand for 320kbs. ^^; My bad.

I would merely prefer mp3s because then I can actually, y'know, do something with it, like put it on my iPod or burn it to a Cd. FLAC and other truely lossless formats involve various programs and stuff that frankly confuses my tiny mind. In the end the only thing I would do with a lossless format is convert it to a lossy format for the sake of listening to it on decent non-laptop speakers. And I barely know how to play a lossless format, let alone convert it effectively.

I leave that to the experts and politely beg for high bitrate mp3s in the meantime. XP

I see, sorry if I came off mean ;).

Several media players are able to handle common lossless formats, flac being the main one I see. Some versions of winamp include an input plugin for flac, foobar2000 is another popular media player which also has support for flac. Usually if the media player doesn't support it natively chances are there is a plugin available to add such support.

I myself am a bit of an audiophile, so a lossless codec is usually my first choice if not that then a very high bitrate lossy codec can also suffice. My audio setup keeps using up more and more of my money, at the moment the total sum of cash i've put into it is close to $3,000 :swoon:.
