The funny thing?
Critics loved it; fans hated it. It has the lowest audience score of all Star Wars films, except for Attack of the Clones (which is also 57%). The Phantom Menace even has a higher score (59%).
The fact that people think this game is that bad is fucking hilarious, and goes to show you how triggered they are over Rey's parents reveal. I loved the movie.
I think most people were expecting many things that went in different directions than they wanted and that's why they're angry. I really liked it but I need a second viewing for deciding where to place it on the ranking.

Which is completely stupid. I like that they used the trailers for misdirection and went a different way. Nobody can say that this film is a complete rip off of Empire Strikes Back. Which is what people hated about The Force Awakens, being too familiar with A New Hope.
You really can't satisfy everyone. I loved the direction of the film, and the Battle of Crait was basically a much smaller, but still very enjoyable Battle of Hoth.

Thank you for uploading. I've had the worst luck with this release so far and have only been able to listen to it thanks to your upload.
My first copy was a defective pressing. The disc would not rip at all on secure mode in EAC and burst mode produced a bunch of errors. Tried listening on my Blu-ray player and while the disc played, the sound was incredibly distorted. Tried playing in the car CD player on the way to return the disc to the store where I purchased it; it played much better (presumably due to more robust error correction?) but still had a few digital glitches. Got my refund, went to a different retailer to pick up a replacement copy since I was afraid the first store got a bad batch. Got home, opened the digipak, but when I tried to pry the disc off the spindle it tore in half!
Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

I also really liked the direction they took with the characters, with the exception of Finn and Rose's storyline (well, Phasma was useless again), which I felt was a bit too long and could have been resolved in a different way, but the scenes with Luke, Rey, Kylo and Snoke were great and in this movie are some of the best battle sequences of the whole saga.

There were jarring issues that I had with the movie. Its not about things not happening to my expectations. It had basic cinematic or movie flaws that took me out of the Star Wars experience.

Where the hell do you live and what store did you return it at in order to get a refund and not an exchange?? Here in the US if you open a disc, there's no returning. Only exchanging. Cause what's to prevent someone from buying it, ripping it, then getting a full refund?

Yes TazerMonkey, where the hell can you possibly live?!? Don't you dare be one of the 95% of the world's population who aren't in the US, that is no excuse for enjoying enhanced consumer rights! :)

Ok. Settle down. You see my point though. And years ago, before today's digital age that was a thing. You'd be able to return an opened disc/cassette or whatever and get a full refund. In today's day and age you can't, because it's borderline stealing (even though we steal on this forum everyday, this is not a place the entire world is aware exists). Buys CD. Rips to computer. Burns copies. Returns CD for complete refund.

Perfectly settled, thank you, just amused. And yes the ripping scenario is simple to understand, but preventing an occasional digital theft is not necessarily the prime consideration in a retailer / consumer relationship, so TazerMonkey getting a refund on a CD is perhaps not such an outrageous occurrence. In this online age, it makes sense for physical retailers to keep visitors to their stores happy.

Agreed... I felt like I had no heavy expectations going in, but was still disappointed from the forced comedy, lack of character development, overly long sequences and general lack of Star Wars vibe. The Force Awakens was definitely flawed also, but was still hugely enjoyable and felt like it fit the Star Wars mold. This didn't, for me.

I think most people were expecting many things that went in different directions than they wanted and that's why they're angry. I really liked it but I need a second viewing for deciding where to place it on the ranking.
Like you, I need a second viewing to really let it sink in and formulate a more rational opinion. But on my first viewing, I really liked it. It's flawed but I liked that it was different and went in unexpected directions. It's not close to The Empire Strikes Back, but it's leagues above the prequels, with the possible exception of Revenge of the Sith.
I think the big problem that many fans have is that it was different. They don't want it remaking The Empire Strikes Back, but there's a certain formula that fans like that they expected to see. Rian Johnson didn't do that. He broke the formula.
Rey being the child of nobodies and not someone we all know was unexpected and upsetting. But I like that because otherwise all we get is a spin on The Empire Strikes Back revealing Vader is Luke's father. We don't need a variation on the same plot point, we need variety. That's what we got.
The same goes for Luke's showdown with Kylo Ren. There were only two ways that was going to end; either Luke dies or Kylo Ren dies. This being the middle chapter, who do you think it'll be? So they did something different. Instead of having Luke die like Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan, they did something different. I liked it. We got a double treat on that one. Not only did we get to see just how powerful Luke was, we also got a touching final moment with him that echoes his introduction in Star Wars.
I understand why many are upset, but I think over time a lot of fans will like it more.

Never understand why people need a second viewing to establish their opinion. It's as if they have no way of concentrating on what's happening because they're worried about how it's going to end.
That kind of mentality is foolish.

Oh and I found the film far superior to TFA, which seemed like a retelling and in places actually parody of ANH. I found it refreshing, far more than I was hoping for.
