I remember my first contact with this music back in the early 80s. It was in the film Excalibur and i remember being blown away by John Boorman's use of classical music in the film. By that time i didn't know much about classical music though, i just thought the music he used was perfect for the film, assuming it was composed for the film. Later i found out that many of the pieces were actually classical music, this one being one of them. Time to relive (relisten?) it :) thanks

EDIT: Having continuing problems downloading part 3 of the surround version though. Hopefully it's just a temporary MEGA glitch

Thank-you so very much for the links. I had trouble because the first time I downloaded the files had errors when de-zipping however I redownloaded them and all was fine.

This is a very interesting rendition of Carmina Burana. Completely different from the Jochum. The sound is surprisingly deep and really great presence even with the stereo version. It is a great addition and and I can't wait to get a surround system together. It will be glorious.

Unless you have a Surround Sound system with at least 6-8 speakers (including a subwoofer), then the Surround Sound version of this won't do you any good. If you do have a Surround Sound system, however, then yes, that's the way to go.

This has been re-upped AND REMASTERED and is available for download again.

When I first uploaded this last year, it was at 96 kHz for the SACD layer. Since then, I have learned that it is better to rip SACDs at 88.2 kHz, because that way the waveform is proportional to the original DSD signal, which results in smoother sound at the higher frequencies. I don't know if it will make an audible difference to anyone, but especially considering that it also makes for slightly smaller .flac files, I figured it would be a good move to make, regardless.

Thanks for sharing this version. Of the recordings I have listened to so far, the old Jochum recording was the one I preferred, but then I have a Germanic bias.

That's curious, since this piece is entirely in Latin.
