Here we have two great film scores by the master for Republic Pictures. Last Command was completed in 1955 and became the most expensive production filmed by Republic . A full sized replica of the Alamo was constructed on the outskirts of San Antonio. The film was full of dramatic action as the score demonstrates. However by this time B movies were coming to the end of their life. A once popular and money making enterprise was coming to an end. A year later Republic turned out Come Next Spring. The film took place in the farmlands of Arkansas in the 1920's. Again the film was not a big hit. The music for these films was however first class by one of the greatest composers of the golden age of Hollywood.
The recordings are from studio acetate disks so the quality does vary but generally sound quality is very good. Restoration was done from my Citadel LP which has been long out of print.
Music composed and Conducted by Max Steiner
