When it comes to a marriage made in heaven between a singer and song writers a very good case could be made for the collaboration of Liza Minnelli with the team of John Kander & Fred Ebb. In addition to her iconic performance in Bob Fosse’s 1972 film version of their stage musical “Cabaret”, Kander & Ebb provided original songs for the majority of Minnelli’s film and stage productions in the 1970s & 80s. Two of the films proved to be major artistic and financial disappointments, 1974’s “Lucky Lady” & 1976’s “A Matter of Time”, certainly not because of Kander & Ebb’s wonderful song contributions and Minnelli’s superb vocals of them. The sound track album of “Lucky Lady” was released by Arista Records but quickly withdrawn after the film’s failure. “A Matter of Time”s sound track LP was never released anywhere except Italy under its Italian title “Nina” and it also quickly went out of print. Both albums, to my knowledge, have never been released on CD and have been out of print for a quarter of a century.

I have remastered both sound track albums, which can be combined together on a single CD. “Lucky Lady” I transferred from my own vinyl source, the American Arista LP and “A Matter of Time” was remastered from a straight vinyl transfer generously provided by a collector friend, who also ripped from the video of the film two vocals by Liza Minnelli not featured on the sound track album. I have cleaned up both LP transfers using my professional tools and although the end result is not perfect, I think the sound is greatly enhanced and improved from the vinyl sources, despite the atrocious quality control issues present in American & Italian vinyl in the 1960s & 70s seeming to fight me all the way. Enclosed are two links to 320 kbps MP3 files of my remasterings and out of respect for these great artists I again ask that you please confine these downloads to your own personal enjoyment. I hope you enjoy these two almost forgotten gems, highlighting Liza Minnelli and Kander & Ebb at their creative peak.
