A Boy Named Charlie Brown Complete Soundtrack v3.1 (12/04/1969)
Original music composed by Vince Guaraldi Sextet, Rod McKuen and John Scott Trotter
"Well the world is full of lots of people,
Here and there and all around.
But people after all,
Start out as being small,
We're all A Boy Named Charlie Brown."

SYNOPSIS
Poor Charlie Brown. He can't fly a kite, and he always loses in baseball.
Having his faults projected onto a screen by Lucy doesn't help him much either.
Against the sage advice and taunting of the girls in his class, he volunteers for the class spelling
bee...and wins! Next, it's the school spelling bee. Once again, a winner! Good grief! Now the pressure is
on as he is off to New York City for the televised national spelling bee. With Snoopy and Linus present
for moral support, can Charlie Brown spell his way to a national championship?

ABOUT THE SOUNDTRACK
A Boy Named Charlie Brown, includes several original songs, some of which boasted vocals for the first time:
"Failure Face", "I Before E Except After C" and "Champion Charlie Brown.
The instrumental tracks interspersed throughout the movie were composed by Vince Guaraldi and arranged by
John Scott Trotter (who also wrote "I Before E Except After C").
The music consisted mostly of uptempo jazz tunes that had been heard since some of the earliest
Peanuts television specials aired back in 1965; however, for A Boy Named Charlie Brown, they were
given a more "theatrical" treatment, with lusher horn-filled arrangements. Instrumental tracks
used in the film included "Skating" (first heard in A Charlie Brown Christmas) and "Baseball Theme"
(first heard in Charlie Brown's All-Stars).
Guaraldi and Trotter were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for their work on
A Boy Named Charlie Brown.

THE COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK - "The Soundtrack That Almost Was" part 1
What's new in this version 3?
The audio is High quality for most tracks; You'll love the way it sounds!
- I creditted Ingolf Dahl for playing that beautiful Beethoven Track "#27 Pathtique Sonata in C minor Op. 13".
For all of you Beethoven finatics, you may notice that a portion of the (fast paced) third movement is played first
(only about 49 seconds). Briefly pausing, the (slower) second movement is then played; this of course
was Guaraldi's original arrangement to match the psychadelic film images floating by.

THE COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK (part 2)
- Track "#46 Champion Charlie Brown (unused jazz version)" by the Vince Guaraldi Sextet is unusual in that
Rod McKuen had written the original as a vocal, but here Vince plays it in his typical jazzy style.
- Track #48 Skating (complete unused version)"; I was finally able to locate Vince Guaraldi's extended
version of "Skating" from this movie (without the "Blue Puck" interruption).
You'll notice immediately the instrumentation is quite different from the movie version and is quite long.
- Track "#49 Something For Snoopy" was originally written by Rod McKuen as an instrumental for the movie,
but was eventually not used in the film. Rod also supplied his own "Piano" style interpretations of
"Failure Face", "Champion Charlie Brown" and a laid back version of "A Boy Named Charlie Brown"
(not to be confused with the movie version you know and love).
- Track "#57 Bus Wheel Blues (ext. no harp)" by John Scott Trotter is an extended version,
without the annoying harp.

written by Derrick Bang that goes into great detail explaining the history of every track on
"A Boy Named Charlie Brown" soundtrack.
You may notice that sometimes my track names and/or song combinations do not match Derrick's exactly.
The reasoning is this: the review sometimes lists 2-3 songs grouped together ex. a,b,c since they have
a common thread. I elected to keep each track separate (whenever possible) to facilate the timeline
in my track list below.
I do, however want to thank Derrick for providing the template and the inspiration to produce this album.
