How do I love when I have no love?
How can a person say their love is true?

What can I say of them?
Passion that burns with dark desires,
Muffled cries bring peaceful slumbers.
How should I answer then?

Promises are made, but broken.
People cover their ears from the lies spoken.
They say they love; still they weep.
Living in dreams, smiles they can no longer keep.

They lie. They cheat.
Their laughter scorns.
Burying the pain that spawned inside.
Masking their heart’s sore . . .

Here is my answer.

Love today is misused.
Love’s meaning is abused.
Love is greater than a feeling.
It comes from deep within.
It swells from the soul, fills the heart
Completes the lost pieces of every being.

My heart is empty,
My soul is incomplete.
I will not wallow in self-pity
I will not sulk in grief.

But wait for the day
when love comes.
Yet, if it is not meant to be . . .
