IRC
IRC, basically, what we have our chat on. The FFShrine chatroom is hosted on a network of other IRC chatrooms. While most already know how the chatroom functions (basic chatting and so on), this guide is mostly for those who wish to enter the FFShrine chatroom using a program called mIRC. Unlike Java, you are able to do much more on mIRC.
First, to download mIRC, go to http://www.mirc.com and download it. Assuming that you already know how to download and install something, lets move on to the actual part where you'll be connecting to the server where the FFShrine chatroom is on.
When you start the program, you'll encounter this window...
Just ignore this and click on continue. You'll then encounter this window...
In this window, you'll be putting your information. Be sure to fill each of these fields in with something. The Nickname field is the important one as it will be the name you will be using for chatting. Please avoid using common names (Names like Cloud and Sephiroth won't work because theres probably someone using it already.) and avoid long complicated names. If you are from the forums, just use your forum name as your nick.
Now, on the left side of the window, click on Servers and you'll see this...
From here, click on the IRC Network drop down list and look for Acidchat. Then click on Connect to
Server...
Then wait a bit... it might take a few tries to connect so don't come crying to me if it doesn't connect the first time around! You'll then see a ton of text fly in the Status window and another window...
In here, type #ffshrine in the field and click join. If you see something like this...
Congrats, you made it and you can go ahead and chat with us!
Alternative: If none of the windows pop up, on the Status window (the only window that should be open), type
/server irc.cleverpun.com and change your nick by typing /nick YourName
If for some reason you cannot connect to the server, do the following...
In the Status Window, type any of the following...
/server irc.cleverpun.com
If they don't work, either the servers are down or you didn't set something right. Drop a PM to MogKnight in the forums and I'll go through the process. | | | | | | | |
